HRC Xtender Splicing System is designed to exceed the capacity, stress and strain, tension, compression and full plastic, cyclic loading of any A706 reinforcing steel. Specified as 175% fy, Xtender Splice will ensure available ductility from the rebar whenever it will be needed.
Exceeds all specifications including Caltrans Ultimate Splice Criteria and 1997 Uniform Building Code™ (UBC) criteria for Type 2 splice for seismic areas 2,3, and 4.
Evenly heat about two bar dia.
around the end of the steel.
Slide the Xtender machine all the way over the bar end, and lock the grips (tightening the wheel).
Run hydraulic pump up to 8,000 -
10,000 psi and release.
One bar (the existing in this case) is ready to connect when it cools down. Finish the other existing bars before connecting Xtension bars.
If the Xtension bars are already prefabricated the connection can be assembled by hand, but a torque-wrench should be applied to tighten the connection.
Quality Control
Unlike welding and many other mechanical coupling systems, the quality of Xtender splices can be controlled by a simple visual inspection. The reliable and consistent process is double-checked when the connection is assembled. If the "upset" heads are not formed satisfactorily, threads are visible or the coupler comes all the way together without tightening the bars.
